Title: Advanced Certificate in Academic Advisong (ACAA): Topics in Advising Theory and Practice
Instructor: Dr. Ilya P. Winham, Lecturer, Department of Political Science, UGA Academic Advisor (Pre-pharmacy), Arts & Sciences, UGA
Location: T&D, room C
Description
This workshop provides academic advisors at UGA with an understanding of five practical perspectives on the nature, purpose, and value of academic advising in higher education. These perspectives include: (1) presidents and provosts, (2) faculty advisors, (3) advising administrators, (4) professional advisors, and (5) students. The course is designed to teach advisors to recognize that different institutional stakeholders have different expectations for advising as well as different visions for its future. Through readings (to be done before the workshop) and in-class activities, the workshop aims to create a sense of intellectual community among advisors and help advisors come to know and communicate their role in the university better.
